about

This is the lead track from the new album Voodoo Skull by the Village, and was written a number of years ago when Phil had a particularly boring desk job, as you can probably tell from a quick read of the lyrics.

lyrics

50 Years

1) I’ve been sitting at a desk nearly all my life,
Apart from when I go home at night,
And I feel as if I’ve been chained there for fifty years.

2) I’ve been working real hard but feeling bored,
Slaving away for no reward,
Save for a gold watch inscribed with 50 years.

50 years is a long long time,
Quite enough to drive me out my mind,
Alkatraz is really pretty tame,
I need something that’s going to keep me sane.

3) I know when I day and they lay me down,
And all my friends are gathered round,
They’ll say he didn’t do much but he did it for fifty years.

4) I’ve been sitting at my desk since five to nine,
Trying to find a way to pass the time,
But every single day seems just like fifty years,
I said every single hour seems just like fifty years,
Yes every single minute seems just like fifty years.
