Voodoo Skull 02:47
White zombies sitting on the wall, Waiting for the bus to take them back to hell, All this time they sit and wait, Unaware of what is wrong or right. Chorus I’ve got a voodoo skull, Can’t seem to break its spell, Don’t need no juju doll, It’s bad gris gris I don’t want it at all. I’m casting the runes, to ward off the dead, Don’t know what to do, or what words should be said. Can you hear the voices in the walls, Are the whisperers in the there still, Has the lurker at the threshold gone, Or is he waiting to come back home? Hear the beating of the drums calling to me, calling to me, I always walk alone, please walk with me, please walk with me, I carry bad thoughts in my head, Is that why I live as the undead, It’s all madness.
2.
What a wasted day it’s been, I never even saw the Queen, Starred upon the silver screen, Featured in somebody’s dream. I never scored a winning goal, Chased a rabbit down a hole, Fought against an evil troll, Nothing happens here. Chorus When we were young, we fought for kings, Lived our dreams, sometimes we were those kings, But those dreams were only that, no more than that, We learn as we grow old. I never made the monster die, Saw a saucer in the sky, Heard the evil banshee’s cry. Maybe that was good. Learn to keep your dreams alive, If you want more than to survive, It’s the key to enjoy the ride, All things happen here.

Laying on our backs in the summer grass, Hands behind our heads, watch clouds as they pass, Long hot sunny days when we were young, Through the eyes of innocence before our song was sung. Making daisy chains, princess for a day, Wear them round your brow, don’t let them blow away, Dandelion clocks floating on the wind, Hot days were so long, never seemed to end. Chorus When the winter comes you’ll sit down by the fire, Look at photographs, remembering, sadly smile. Cider from a jar, earthenware and cold, Riches at your feet, fields of solid gold, Painted butterfly, princess of the may, Memories that age, feel so far away.

Muses 03:08
I’ll read you a poem that’s written by Shakespeare for you, I’ll read it out loud if that’s what you want me to do, He wrote it one morning while walking through Stratford, The road to the market, then out of the blue, He must have been psychic to know everything about you. You’re one of the muses or John Lennon’s Lucy are you, He wrote out a note when he looked in the sky and saw you, He followed you down to a bridge by a fountain, While floating downstream in a boat he was out in, But try as he might his pen couldn’t do justice to you. Chorus And where you out walking down by the lakeside As Wordsworth was sitting that day, And as you looked up to his place on the hillside, He lost what he wanted to say. You’re Scarlett O’Hara, and maybe tomorrow you’ll be the queen of the may, You drank cider with Rosie alongside a young Laurie Lee, And when Thomas Hardy said the village party Put on each year by all the local gentry, You were the prettiest there as far as he could see.

I saw that girl today, the one you always say Seems distant but somehow pretty nice You know she said to me that she wants me to be The one to pass on some advice And she wants you, feels she needs you to be with her all the time Says she’s only feeling lonely, though you think she’s feeling fine, You are always, yes you’re always, you are always on her mind. I wish it could be me, rather than you and she I’ve had that feeling for a while, And it’s with a heavy heart that gives you the start And I can only sadly smile I suppose that it must be that it could not be me You treat me as if I’m not there, And my aching heart I must keep in the dark And never let you know I care Though I want you, feel I need you, to be with you all the time I say I’m only feeling lonely, though you think I’m feeling fine You are always, you are always, yes you are always on my mind.

I’ve got a pocketful of happiness, would you like to share, More than enough for you, me and everyone, almost too much to bare. Chorus Don’t you know what I’m talking bout, are you seeking clues, Figure it out for yourself, is that too much for you? I’ve got a kaleidoscope of memories, view them all for free, Shake them up, watch how the patterns form, choose what you want to see. Lifetimes flash before your eyes, there’s no chance to compromise, Grab them, you’ve no time to plan, catch each moment that you can. I’ve got a saucer full of secrets, would you take a sip, Wander through all your half formed fantasies, I think you’ll like the trip.

I heard a voice say welcome to the circus There’s a grand parade and plenty else to see, Then to my surprise and consternation I looked into a mirror and saw the ringmaster was me Chorus And the waters will dry up. And the castles turn to sand eventually, And the mountains will tumble by and by, But I am so old, and I have seen the sky. There is the man who wrestles with tigers, We lock him in chains but he’s slippery as an eel, And here is the girl who balances our books, but She has to put her hat on and feed fish to the seals. You say you’re above this, perhaps an outsider But we’re in this together if you know what I mean, Who holds the tarot, and who leads the deal, Who draws the death card, and who will draw the queen?
9.
I’ve got a place where I go when I’m lonely, I take myself there when I’m feeling low, And if you ask me I’ll show you the pathway, But I won’t let you go. There’s only one route and there’s only one doorway, There’s only one door and there’s only one key, I carry it with me and won’t let you use it, To take my solitude from me. Chorus I’ll follow you when I’m happy, I’ll follow you when I’m sad, But if you follow me when I want to be lonely I’ll lock you away with my key. You see there are times when I want to be silent, To sit with my thoughts and nobody but me, But if you insist then I’ll have to deter you For that is the way it must be. I don’t know the answers and I don’t know the questions, Even if they are there for me to see, But if you’ll excuse me I know I must be there, My thoughts and nobody but me.
10.
Don’t you think that the world is flat? Maybe they never told you that. They’ll promise evolution does not exist, Carnival of fools, flick of the wrist. Many virgins waiting just for you, If you’ll blow yourself to Timbuctoo, One born every minute to raise a fist, Carnival of fools, flick of the wrist. Cats and dogs don’t create their own gods, Yet man’s the only one to start a war. There’s no wizard in the sky, All you are is dead when you die, They preach nonsense if you don’t resist, Carnival of fools, flick of the wrist. You should take responsability, For who you are and how you’ll be, Think for yourself without assist, Carnival of fools, flick of the wrist.

about

This is the music of the drowsy slumber at the end of a day of imagined sunshine over a provincial village green. It is, as the cover suggests, the delight and half-remembered excitement of bunting strung prettily and the canvas tents hiding the delights of the fête. It is a melodic re-imagining of a by-gone age, the rose-tinted sound of perfectly pleasant pop bringing a welcome acoustic folk direction to the many psych-infusions around.
