Winds of Change There’s a picture on your wall of a happy little boy, Rosy cheeked and smiling as he holds his favourite toy, Beaming at the camera unsure what’s going on, All he knows in his young life is parents love and fun, His bright eyes twinkle what do they see, Do they see the future or wonder what will be, Small child playing on the sand holding a balloon Gust of wind pulls it from his grasp he feels his life’s in ruins Could anything be worse than that, What on earth could be worse than that, Chorus There’s a cold wind blowing and it’s coming soon Doesn’t matter if you wrap up warm, Not a chance that you’ll escape the storm, Winds of change mean too much damage done. Growing up you find how much your vision starts to change, Watching through an adult’s eyes things don’t look the same, Don’t you wish it was like when you were young, Did you hope that what you saw would come to pass. Looking back through twilight years only brings you pain, The things you wish that you had done haunt you yet again Don’t blame yourself for what is not your fault, Don’t take the blame for what is not your fault.

Phil's Blues 03:16
Phil’s Blues When I’m talking to you, you never hear a single word, When I’m talking to you, you never hear a single word, The things you say I’ve told you are frankly quite absurd. Don’t call me lazy when you don’t know what I do. Don’t call me lazy when you don’t know what I do. Don’t call me lazy unless you can do it to. I had the blues before I even knew they had a name, It doesn’t matter what they’re called, the feeling is still the same. I won’t be called a liar by someone who doesn’t see the truth, I won’t be called a liar by someone who doesn’t see the truth, I won’t be called a liar by someone who ignores the proof. If the devil has the best tunes why does he have none of mine? If the devil has the best tunes why does he have none of mine? It’s not as if he’d have to play them all the time.

Do you believe in ghosts? Do you believe in ghosts, Do you think they only come out at night, Do you hear them call your name, Or do you blame it on the sound of the rain, Do you believe in ghosts? When we were little kids Uncle Joe told us stories about the dead, We’d sit around and listen to every word he said. He’d say you never know if they’re really really really gone, Sometimes the spirits linger on and on and on. Do you believe in ghosts, Do you think they only come out at night, Do you feel them touch your hair, Or do you blame it on the wind in the air, Do you believe in ghosts? He drove a big black hearse, Uncle knew what he was talking about, He’d tie the bodies down so they could not jump out. Do you believe in ghosts, Do you think they only come out at night, Do you see them on your wall, Or do you pray that it’s nothing at all, Do you believe in ghosts? He talked about the friendly ones Who come by in the daytime, They might show up as a bird, butterflies or a sign. Do you believe in ghosts, would you know if you saw one, Have you heard of deja vous, Or do you think it couldn’t happen to you. Do you believe in ghosts?

Calm and not the scream The long dark nights seem to drag, The minutes feel like hours, The clock hands turn back, It’s still a quarter after four, The same as it was, When I looked before Chorus If I could sleep then I could dream, Feel the calm and not the scream. These nightmare waking times, Are sadly only mine, I wish that I could share. Count the beats between your breaths, The endlessness of seconds Is a torturous excess, The shadows play games with your eyes, Blurred hallucinations, That are nothing more than lies. The endless night keeps looping round, The darkness is so dense, You can hardly hear a sound. While the hours only show, What the seconds Already clearly know

Alien Skies 02:37
Alien Skies Another Sunday afternoon, only Arsenal on tv, Should I go out for a while, see if there is much to see, Many billion miles from here falling through an open sky, A voyage comes to an end, new begining from today. An evening walk in the park, nothing better for me to do, Making idle chitter chat, if only there was someone to talk to All those billion miles away seeing through another’s eyes Never daring to believe the view of alien skies Grainy pictures on the box, beamed back from far away Nothing ever happens here, should they mean, mean a thing to me.

Looks Like It’s Friday Again Why does everybody all around me seem so tall, Could it be that it is me who really feels quite small. The weekend’s here and I hope it rains, And it looks like it’s friday again. How come everybody is out there with their favourite girl, Could I be the only lonely person in the world. I can’t even find someone to blame, And it looks like it’s friday again. Happiness is only fleeting I hear myself say, By the time I’ve found I’ve got it - it has run away. Well there’s seven days in every week and each one seems the same, Each one bringing with it nothing, somethings never change, The target just keeps moving out of range, And it looks like it’s friday again.

What Memories Are Gary Halliday was a pilot when the world was black and white, Gary Halliday was my hero but only on a Saturday night. If the Tyrant King was not your thing You’ve never ever been down Portobello Road, Or the Ace of Wands knew how it was done But wondered what the tarot showed Chorus Many things change, but memories remain, Do they stay the same? I don’t think so but I don’t really know What memories are. I dreamt I went into the Village and never met with Number 1, I would have asked him for his motives If I knew what he had done All that you can ever do is work out what works for you, Don’t follow any plan that you don’t understand If Mondas came into your view, was it in the dead of night, Did you hope that Space Patrol had the means to put things right?

That’s How I Move I’m taking my time because it’s my time to take as if you don’t know, I’m taking my time at a leisurely rate because I move slow, I’m not built for speed, it’s not what I need, I trust that’s ok, What won’t bring me sorrow I’ll leave til tomorrow, I’m not bothered today. That’s how I move, When I’m in the groove Just taking my time Don’t make the mistake I’m not riddled with hate if I disapprove, If I look sad it don’t mean that I’m mad I’m just not in the mood, Don’t push for clues, I’m not being rude if I choose not to share, Keep your thoughts to yourself, you know that they don’t help and what’s more I don’t care. I don’t want you to tell me that I’m not who I am, I don’t need you to tell me that, it isn’t part of my plan. I’m thinking my thoughts and they don’t come up short if I say so myself, If they stay in my head they are best left unsaid or at the back of the shelf, I don’t need your advice and I won’t think twice to tell you so, So keep yourself quiet, you really should try it as a favour to you.

about

‘Winds Of Change’ is the critically acclaimed new album from Phil Matthews.
The Village is the brainchild of quirky music-maker Phil Matthews. And, if you’ve never heard of
him then it’s probably the fault of the UK’s music press - although some far-sighted journalists
(and thousands of music fans) have been shouting his name for years. In fact he’s spent around
one whole year at the top of the UK’s folk charts........ A familiar sight in the Midlands, Phil has
begun to seek out new musical territories to conquer with his original music - music that has
been compared to Robyn Hitchcock, Syd Barrett, Neil Finn, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan.......the
list just goes on ! But The Village is so much more than comparisons to other stars. The Village
is quite simply the voice of middle-aged England - and there’s a lot of us out there !
If Phil Matthews is new to you check this album out.
If you’re already a fan you’ll need no encouragement.
Either way you’ll love this album.
